Too Short A Season
Next Generation Episode #16
Written by Michael Michaelian and DC Fontana. Story by Michael Michaelian. Directed by Rob Bowman.
Stardate: 41309.5 First aired: 8 February 1988
The Enterprise takes the frail Admiral Jameson to Mordan IV, a planet he ended a hostage situation on 40 years before, and where a similar situation has developed again. Jameson is recovering from Iverson's Disease, and also admits he's using an illegal rejuvenation technique from Cerebus II which is making him younger by the day. He also confesses that he solved the hostage problem by giving the terrorists Federation weapons - he got round the Prime Directive by giving the other side the same weapons. Karnas, the leader of the planet, has lured him to the planet for revenge. Jameson decides to go in all guns blazing, but Karnas ambushes him. Karnas watches Jameson die from his illness, then frees the hostages.
Guest Cast
Marsha Hunt as "Anne Jameson", Michael Pataki as "Karnas", Clayton Rohner as "Mark Jameson".
Trivia
Originally a story tackling the male menopause and treating the rejuvenation as a metaphor for Alzheimer's Disease (Jameson would 'regress' to the point where he couldn't remember his wife), Fontana added the terrorism plot.
